Would You Know These Drugs By Their Street Names?

You might ask yourself why you would ever need to know the street names associated with substance abuse. Chances are they someone you know or even someone you love has a problem with drug or alcohol abuse. Substance abuse knows no boundaries and it crosses all economic strata. Get familiar with these names and don’t kid yourself that you will never be touched by the “need to know.”

Just about all illegal drugs have street names. Most of these drugs are referred to by many, many different names. A “street name” is the slang usage for a drug other than its chemical or popular name. Drug dealers and drug users use street names to converse with one another and prevent others from knowing what they are talking about. You should know that new names, lingo and slang are invented daily and the capacity to comprehend drug-related street vocabulary is a powerful aid for public health providers, teachers, parents and all branches of law enforcement.

The following list is far from complete. It is, however, a listing of some of the more widely abused drugs and some of the names commonly used on the streets. They are as follows:
